Start with a room with a sloped floor, add perforated Beech panels at angled walls and a sloped ceiling with complex angles and you have the Methodist auditorium. Work began well before the floor was poured, so calculating dimensions and angles, and keeping panels square, and maintaining ¼" joint lines that could run up a wall, across a ceiling and down the opposite wall was difficult. With so many panels sequenced, it was a challenge to find a Beech flitch of adequate size and quality to do the entire auditorium, and even harder to make sure all the panels match. Beech has a subtle grain, but can have a prominent tight/loose effect that has to be managed properly when panels are fabricated and installed months apart due to field conditions.
